Meet the Editor!

Hello everyone!

As promised, here is the introduction of one Maxximum Chan, the new editor at Hogwash Comics. I’m really excited to be a part of the changes and new developments in the company. I just graduated with my Masters in English and I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned. I am hoping to gain some more editing and publishing experience to further my knowledge of the industry. I’m excited to get to know more creators and help them build and better their careers and my own. I’m sure we can all learn a lot from each other.

I specialize in dark and twisty, the darker the better. Much of my own writing stems from my own dark and twisty places and I have yet to write a happy ending that wasn’t mostly bittersweet. I’m currently working on tightening my craft essay about mental illness and my sci-fi story Bonies. I hope to eventually finish my novel Dragon Pox and I am starting a chapbook centered around demons.

I love the dark, supernatural, demons, monsters, the occult, etc. Beelzebub and I are great friends, and Lucifer comes for tea every other Thursday to bitch about his underlings. Genre or literary doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a quality idea. I’m here to help you reach the great beyond in your mind and access channels you might be afraid to go down. I can’t promise the path will be easy, and the steps with be illuminated, but I will be right beside you every step of the way, even if you cannot see in the dark.

Sandman is probably my favorite comic, but I love almost everything Neil Gaiman touches. I have a soft spot for Buffy and Penny Dreadful. I also love Heathen, Low, Saga, and Harrow County, or anything that’s dark and scary. Greg Tocchini, the artist for Low, is one of my favorites, but Stan Sakai is my favorite person in the entire world because he’s so sweet and genuine.

I’ve run into editors from Lion Forge, Dark Horse, and Valiant at various conventions and it sparked a desire to learn more about comic editing because it’s a whole different bear than book editing. You’re a copyeditor and an art critic and a panel feng shui master and a script reader. Comics combine art and words into a beautiful medium that’s different from anything else, and I want to be a part of that.

I’ll be back again soon to talk more about our submissions process and some of the other changes I’ll slowly be bringing to Hogwash. Make sure to watch your inbox and follow the Facebook page so you don’t miss anything.

I hope you’re not too afraid of the dark.

Maxx Chan
